Wilson Audio Specialties was co-founded in 1974 by David A. Wilson and Sheryl Lee Wilson in a garage in Novato, California. In the early 1990s the company moved its operations — and the Wilsons moved their home — to Provo, Utah, where the loudspeakers are still designed, built and voiced today. David Wilson led the company until Veterans Day 2016, when he handed the CEO and President roles to his son Daryl Wilson. David passed away in May 2018. Wilson remains a family-run manufacturer, with Daryl continuing the engineering direction his father set. The company motto is Authentic Excellence, and it is meant literally.

The Wilson engineering premise

Wilson's engineering has always rested on three convictions. Enclosures should contribute as little as possible to what the drivers do. Drivers should be time-aligned so that the output from each of them arrives at the listener's ear together, not smeared across a few thousandths of a second. And crossovers should be developed by ear against live music, iteratively, rather than fitted to a measurement target and shipped. Wilson holds to those convictions across every model in the range, from the smallest to the largest.

The cabinet materials are proprietary and non-obvious. X-Material is a phenolic composite Wilson has used for decades — dense, well-damped and expensive to machine. V-Material was introduced with the Chronosonic XVX in 2019 and is now used across the current V generation. S-Material provides a coupling surface for the midrange driver in newer models. H-Material and structural carbon fibre appear in the Autobiography's construction. The point is not the exotic chemistry; it is that Wilson has invested decades developing materials whose acoustic behaviour it can predict, and then combines them in specific places on each cabinet where their damping and coupling properties do measurable work.

The drivers Wilson chooses are not exotic on paper. The current tweeter across the V generation is the Convergent Synergy Carbon (CSC) dome. The current midrange is the QuadraMag on the Alexx V and Alexia V. The current 8-inch woofer is shared across Sasha V, WATT/Puppy and Sabrina V, so those three loudspeakers are working from the same low-frequency starting point. The crossovers use AudioCapX-WA capacitors that Wilson winds in-house on custom machines and finishes by hand — a level of vertical integration most loudspeaker manufacturers do not pursue.

The Wilson Audio line at LMC

LMC carries the full Wilson range. The floorstanding models — Autobiography (Wilson's new five-way flagship, revealed in April 2026), WAMM Master Chronosonic, Chronosonic XVX, Alexx V, Alexia V, Sasha V and Sabrina V — cover the reference tier through the compact-tower tier as an engineering ladder, each rung adding cabinet mass, driver count and voicing complexity to what sits below it. Autobiography is the first flagship from Daryl Wilson designed to sit above the Chronosonic XVX; Chronosonic XVX itself was Daryl's from-scratch flagship in 2019, launched two years after the WAMM Master Chronosonic that David Wilson designed as his own magnum opus.

The current WATT/Puppy — launched in 2024 as a full remaster of the design that put Wilson on the map in 1986 — and the TuneTot standmount cover Wilson's smaller loudspeakers. TuneTot has been in the range since 2018 and remains the smallest full-Wilson-engineering loudspeaker made. Subwoofers cover three cabinet sizes: LōKē for smaller systems (2022, 500-watt amplifier), Subsonic in the middle (2018), and Submerge for the larger loudspeakers (launched 2024, 1,600-watt amplifier). The ActivXO dual-subwoofer crossover pairs any of them into a full low-frequency system. Cinema installations use the Mezzo CSC and WASAE Center for centre-channel duties and the Alida CSC for on-wall and in-ceiling surround placement in cinema rooms.

Arizona's only Wilson dealer

Wilson's own US dealer locator lists LMC Home Entertainment as the sole authorised Wilson dealer in Arizona. In April 2025, Wilson named LMC its number one dealer worldwide for 2024 — recognition that coincided with Wilson's fiftieth anniversary. The award was presented by Daryl Wilson personally at the Scottsdale showroom on April 19th, along with a custom pair of WATT/Puppy loudspeakers finished in Wilson's newly developed “Ethereal White” Premium Pearl WilsonGloss. The WATT/Puppy heritage

The WATT/Puppy is Wilson's most historically significant loudspeaker. The original launched in 1986 as a distinctive two-box design — a compact stand-mounted monitor paired with a dedicated bass module — and it became, in Wilson's telling, the best-selling loudspeaker over $10,000 per pair in history. It went through eight iterations between 1986 and 2011, then came out of the range for over a decade. Wilson relaunched it in 2024 on the same visual footprint as the original but with current driver technology, V-Material cabinet construction, in-house-wound capacitors and the CSC tweeter. That is why the pair Wilson chose to gift LMC as the 2024 award was a WATT/Puppy rather than any other loudspeaker in the range: the WATT/Puppy is the model most associated with Wilson's own history, and 2024 was the fiftieth anniversary of the company David and Sheryl Lee Wilson founded.

It uses the same 8-inch woofer as the Sasha V and the WATT/Puppy, the same CSC tweeter, the same V-Material construction and the same in-house-wound capacitor design — a genuinely reference-grade design in a room-friendly floorstander that will drive well on most quality amplification. Working up from there — Sasha V, Alexia V, Alexx V, Chronosonic XVX, Autobiography, WAMM Master Chronosonic — you are buying more of the same engineering premise executed at greater scale: more cabinet mass, more driver count, more time-alignment complexity, more dynamic and low-frequency headroom.

Bring your own recordings. Wilson loudspeakers reveal what your recordings actually contain, which is a compliment on well-made recordings and a challenge on marginal ones. The most useful audition is a set of five or six pieces you know intimately, played at the volumes you actually listen at, in a session unhurried enough for the pattern to emerge.

The Sabrina V is not a scaled-down Wilson; it is the same Wilson in a smaller cabinet. That is worth understanding before the audition — if the Sabrina V's voicing does not match what you are looking for, none of the larger loudspeakers will either. It is the honest starting question, and an hour on the Sabrina V is the fastest way to answer it.
