Wilson Audio Alexx V

The Alexx V is the fifth-generation Alexx — the loudspeaker that has been Wilson Audio's reference tower for rooms where a Chronosonic XVX or WAMM would be architectural overreach. In its V generation, the Alexx receives essentially every meaningful advancement the WAMM Master Chronosonic program has produced, which makes it the most direct route to that engineering in an enclosure a serious listening room can actually hold.

The upper modules carry the program's signature work. The Convergent Synergy Carbon tweeter is designed and 3D-printed in-house in Provo. The midrange section runs the QuadraMag alnico pair — dissimilar 7″ and 5.75″ drivers, each optimized for its portion of the band — mounted behind newly designed wave diffusers. Below them, twin 10.5″ paper-composite woofers trace directly to the WAMM program. The whole array is adjustable: aimed and time-aligned to the listening position at installation, so every frequency band launches together and arrives together. In-room response runs 20 Hz to 32 kHz within ±3 dB.

The load is the part the spec sheet understates. A thousand pounds per channel is inert in the best sense, but the 4-ohm nominal impedance dips to 2.0 ohms at 250 Hz — squarely in the power band — which is why the stated 100-watt minimum should be read as an entry requirement rather than a recommendation. This is a loudspeaker that repays genuine current delivery.

Both showrooms demonstrate it, deliberately on opposite topologies. In Scottsdale it runs on Burmester 909 MK5 monoblocks behind the 077 preamplifier, with a Wilson Submerge pair taking the bottom two octaves and a Linn Klimax DSM as source. In Tempe it anchors the Reference Room on Dan D'Agostino Momentum M400 MxV monoblocks with the Momentum preamplifier, sourced by a Linn Sondek LP12 and Klimax DSM through a Transparent Reference XL loom. Hearing both is the honest audition — and if the question is Alexia V below or XVX above, the answer is usually the room, which is a conversation worth having before the visit.
