The WATT/Puppy returns — Wilson’s most iconic loudspeaker design, updated with current-generation drivers and cabinet engineering.

Product Details

Description

The WATT/Puppy is the loudspeaker that made Wilson Audio's name — the modular monitor-plus-woofer system that defined an era of high-end audio — and in 2024 Wilson marked its 50th anniversary by returning it to the catalogue. This is not a nostalgia piece. The reissue honors the original design language of both cabinets while incorporating every material, transducer and crossover advancement of the five decades since.

The architecture that made the original famous is intact: a compact WATT monitor carrying the Convergent Synergy Carbon tweeter, seated on its dedicated Puppy bass cabinet with twin 8″ woofers. Two hundred pounds per channel, 91 dB sensitive, a genuinely compact two-box reference for normally proportioned rooms — the brief that started the company in the first place.

In Tempe it is demonstrated in an unusually pure configuration: a Linn Klimax DS network player feeding a Klimax Twin power amplifier directly, with no preamplifier in the chain at all — volume handled in the digital domain at a resolution high enough that the traditional objection does not apply. Fewer boxes, fewer connections, less between the recording and the room. It is a demonstration of how little a serious system actually requires.

For anyone who owned or wanted the original, the audition is its own reward. For everyone else, the useful comparison is against the Sasha V — its direct descendant — which shares the two-cabinet philosophy and sits nearby. Hearing where five generations of development went is more instructive than any anniversary story.
