Sonus faber Sonetto III G2

Sonetto III G2 is the compact floorstander of Sonus faber's second-generation Sonetto Collection — the smallest tower in a range that runs from Sonetto I bookshelf up to the flagship Sonetto VIII G2. Where Sonetto V G2 and VIII G2 above it carry the Camelia midrange and cork chamber derived directly from Suprema, Sonetto III G2 takes a different tack: a 2.5-way system engineered specifically to make a slim floorstanding cabinet work in rooms where a larger tower would overwhelm the space.

The driver complement is designed from scratch for this cabinet. The tweeter is a 1.1-inch DAD (Damped Apex Dome) silk soft dome — the DAD design pairs the tweeter with a copper cup that extends response beyond 30 kHz and reduces distortion at the top of the range. The midwoofer and woofer are both 6.5-inch paper pulp sandwich cones, each surrounded by the distinctive flower-pattern rubber suspension first developed for Suprema's Camelia midrange, and each equipped with an aluminium demodulation ring that reduces motor distortion.

Below 280 Hz the cabinet vents downward onto a new concrete base — a structural feature added across the Sonetto G2 range for stability and vibration control. The midwoofer vents to the rear; the woofer vents down onto the concrete plate. That base is not decorative — it isolates the cabinet from the floor mechanically, and adds the mass that pushes the vibrational resonance below the audible range.

Frequency response runs from 38 Hz to 40 kHz. Sensitivity is 88 dB into 4 ohms with recommended amplification of 50 to 280 watts. Each cabinet stands 1,068 mm tall and weighs 25.8 kilograms.
