Sonus faber SE Limited Edition Loudspeakers

The Sonus faber SE is a limited-edition rendition of Sonus faber's masterpiece, first unveiled in 2009 and now available only through a 'special request' arrangement with premier clientele. Sonus faber ships every SE from Vicenza with a complete overhaul incorporating their latest developments in driver and crossover technologies. LMC Home Entertainment is the sole authorized US dealer.

The 3.5-way system pairs a 30 mm Beryllium dome tweeter, 180 mm neodymium magnet midrange, two 260 mm sandwich-cone woofers (syntactic foam core, coated cellulose pulp skins), and a 380 mm side-firing subwoofer (syntactic foam core, nano carbon fiber skins). The rear-facing Il Sound Field Shaper — a 29 mm neodymium tweeter and 120 mm paper pulp/natural fiber midrange — feeds a portion of the signal into the room's rear boundary for adjustable soundstage expansion. Crossover points sit at 80 Hz, 250 Hz, and 2500 Hz. Frequency response 18 Hz – 36 kHz. Sensitivity 92 dB SPL. Power handling 100 W – 1 kW without clipping.

Six Sonus faber signature technologies distinguish the SE: Polar Clamshells, Anima Legata Tuned Mass Damper, Il Sound Field Shaper, the Silent Case, Zero Vibration Transmission, and the multi-generation refined driver array. Cabinet dimensions are 1,750 × 750 × 785 mm (68.8 × 29.5 × 31 in), and each pair ships at 307 kg (676 lb) per speaker net weight — LMC installs and sets up the SE anywhere in the United States rather than entrust delivery to conventional freight.

TONEAudio's Jeff Dorgay reviewed the SE from LMC's Scottsdale reference room in February 2019, driven by a pair of Burmester 909 MK5 monoblocks bridged in mono for near-2,000 watts per channel — the same amplification configuration currently in service. That configuration is the reference SE demonstration in the United States.
