Product Details

Description

The McIntosh PS2K is McIntosh's flagship powered subwoofer — an ambitious quad-driver, quad-amplifier design delivering up to 2,000 watts of pure low-frequency energy. Four 13-inch woofers with the patented Low Distortion/High Performance (LD/HP) Magnetic Circuit Design, each driven by its own dedicated 500-watt Class D amplifier, work in concert to deliver the deepest and most authoritative bass response possible from a single subwoofer cabinet.

The engineering priorities separate the PS2K from most powered subs in its price band. Multi-layer carbon fiber cones with an integrated formed joint to the voice coil deliver extreme rigidity — a single-layer cone can flex enough at high output to degrade sound quality, and the multi-layer construction eliminates that mode of distortion. Extra-long voice coils and long-excursion suspensions extend linear capability further than typical driver designs. The sealed-box enclosure (no port noise) is finished with a nearly 1.5-inch-thick baffle for structural rigidity, and the woofers are stacked vertically atop the amplifier module — which carries a power output meter showing total PS2K output in real time.

The DSP suite provides adjustable low-pass filter (40-100 Hz), adjustable high-pass filter (40-100 Hz), continuously variable phase, and two-band parametric EQ (30-100 Hz with variable bandwidth and ±8 dB level) for room correction. Daisy-chaining allows multiple PS2Ks in a single system when the room truly demands it. Power Control turns the PS2K on and off from other McIntosh components.

Pair with reference-tier loudspeakers (XRT2.1K, XRT1.1K, ML1 Mk II) for 2-channel or with a reference McIntosh cinema chain. Available at LMC — walk in during business hours or book ahead.
