McIntosh C1100 Vacuum Tube Preamplifier

The McIntosh C1100 Vacuum Tube Stereo Preamplifier was the flagship tube preamplifier of the McIntosh line from 2015 through 2022 — the two-chassis dual-mono design that set the McIntosh tube-preamplifier standard for a generation. Its high-level inputs had the lowest noise of any McIntosh preamplifier ever produced at time of introduction, and the fundamental engineering has carried directly into the current C2800 (single-chassis reference tube) and C12000 (dual-topology reference) preamplifiers.

The two-chassis architecture separates the audio section (C1100T tube preamplifier module) from the control and power sections (C1100C controller module) — an approach that isolates the sensitive tube gain stages from any electrical noise generated by the control electronics. Twelve vacuum tubes power the signal path: six 12AX7a and six 12AT7. Left and right channels are electrically and mechanically isolated inside each chassis for true dual-mono operation.

Twelve analog inputs (six balanced, four unbalanced, plus MM and MC phono with adjustable loading) accept effectively every analog source a serious system requires. The Home Theater Pass Through allows integration into a home cinema system, and the headphone jack — with McIntosh’s HXD Crossfeed Director — was the highest-output headphone stage McIntosh had built at time of production. Balanced and unbalanced outputs to any McIntosh power amplifier.
