Product Details

Description

The McIntosh C12000 is McIntosh’s two-chassis reference-tier preamplifier and one of the most unique designs in high-end audio — a single preamp that offers both solid-state and vacuum-tube output stages, letting the listener choose the sonic character source by source or system by system. Introduced 2021 as the perfect partner to the MC3500 Mk II tube monoblock, the C12000 is the successor and evolution of the celebrated C1100 lineage, and the current McIntosh preamplifier flagship.

The two-chassis architecture separates the C12000C Controller (housing power supplies, control logic, and data connections) from the C12000ST audio chassis (housing the balanced solid-state and vacuum-tube preamplification circuitry). Left and right channels are electrically and mechanically isolated from each other within the audio chassis, delivering true dual-mono operation. The two chassis connect via a specially designed shielded umbilical. Twelve analog inputs total: six balanced XLR, four unbalanced RCA, plus adjustable-loading MC and MM phono. Both solid-state and vacuum-tube balanced and unbalanced output pairs.

At LMC, the C12000 anchors the Scottsdale McIntosh Room — driving the full McIntosh amp range across Sonus faber Il Cremonese, Amati G5, and Serafino G2 loudspeakers, with the dCS Lina Network DAC on the digital input side. The audition is the definitive demonstration of what the dual-topology preamplifier delivers: the same preamplifier through the same sources on multiple loudspeakers, letting the listener hear exactly what the tube-versus-solid-state output choice contributes at each level.

At $19,000 in current McIntosh pricing, the C12000 is available for audition at the Scottsdale or Tempe showrooms. Pairs naturally with the MC3500 Mk II tube monoblock (tube output), MC1.25KW or MC611 monoblocks (solid-state output), or any capable McIntosh power amp.
