dCS’s flagship — modular Master Clock, Core, Processor and Transport; the current pinnacle of Ring DAC digital playback.

Product Details

Description

The dCS Varèse Music System is the flagship of dCS — the company's most advanced music system to date, and the current summit of digital playback. It is a five-component architecture in which each unit performs one job perfectly rather than compromising across many: the Core handles input, conversion, noise shaping, and filtering; a dedicated Mono DAC serves each audio channel; the Master Clock governs timing; the User Interface presents the system; an optional CD/SACD Transport adds silver disc.

The Mono DACs implement a completely new Differential Ring DAC — twice the current sources of the previous-generation Ring DAC hardware, operating in differential mode, with one full converter dedicated per channel. dCS's patented Tomix clocking protocol holds the left and right Mono DACs in perfect synchronicity at every sample rate, and the measured floor follows: residual noise better than 118 dB0 and spurious responses better than -115 dB0 across the audible band, with format support from 24-bit/384 kS/s PCM through DSD/512.

ACTUS is the other departure. Where earlier dCS reference systems moved audio, control, and clock between components over multiple digital cables, Varèse uses one — a single ACTUS interconnect from each unit to the Core. That is a physical simplification of what a reference digital stack looks like on a shelf, and a genuine improvement in end-to-end signal integrity. Control runs through the full-color touch screen, a Bluetooth-LE remote, and the dCS Mosaic ACTUS app.

Configurations run from Core plus Mono DACs at $250,000 to fully loaded with Master Clock, Transport, and I/O Module. LMC configures Varèse against the amplification and loudspeakers it will actually feed — this is a system conversation, not a component purchase.
