Description

The dCS Rossini APEX DAC is the center of the current dCS range — the same Ring DAC APEX conversion architecture as the Vivaldi playback system, delivered in the single-chassis Rossini platform with streaming built in. For the listener building a serious digital front end where a multi-component Vivaldi stack is out of scope, this is dCS's answer, and it concedes remarkably little.

The converter is the point: the proprietary dCS Ring DAC, operating at 6 MHz or 3 MHz depending on mapping, carrying the 2022 APEX hardware refinements — the reconfigured circuit board and new analogue output stage that measurably lowered distortion across the Ring DAC program. Residual noise runs better than -113 dB0 across the audible band, and output levels are menu-selectable from 0.2 to 6 volts on the balanced outputs.

Where the Vivaldi DAC assumes a separate streaming source, the Rossini integrates one. The network input streams TIDAL, Qobuz, Deezer, and internet radio through the dCS Mosaic app; the platform is Roon Ready and supports AirPlay, Spotify Connect, and UPnP; and MQA decodes and renders in full from the network and USB inputs. PCM runs to 24-bit/384 kS/s with DSD/64 and DSD/128 supported. USB, AES, Dual AES, and three flavors of SPDIF cover every legacy source.

The build is full dCS: aerospace-grade machined aluminum with internal acoustic damping panels, in silver or black. Against the Bartók below it, the Rossini buys the deeper converter implementation; against the Vivaldi above, it trades separates flexibility for one-box elegance.
