Description
Balder inherits its optical design and single laser engine directly from Loki, the projector that sat above it, and pairs them with Barco's Platinum electronics — 4K over HDMI 2.0a with HDCP 2.2. The imaging device is a 0.9-inch DMD DLP chipset putting 3,840 x 2,160 on the screen.
What separates it from most projectors at any price is what it is made of. Aluminium, magnesium and glass rather than moulded plastic, which is a materials decision with consequences for thermal behaviour and mechanical stability over a long life, not a styling one.
A Cinemascope version is offered for rooms built around a 2.39:1 screen. Balder is the sensible entry into Barco Residential for a refined media room that does not need the output of the three-chip models above it.
