Sony BRAVIA Projector 9

The BRAVIA Projector 9 is the top of Sony's home cinema line and delivers 3,400 ANSI lumens from a Z-Phosphor laser light source rated at 20,000 hours. The panel is an 0.61-inch SXRD at native 4K — 8.3 million discrete pixels, with no pixel shifting involved in producing them.

What separates this generation from the one before it is the processor. The XR Processor is derived from Sony's reference televisions and adapted for projection, and rather than handling colour, contrast and detail as separate operations it cross-analyses them. XR Dynamic Tone Mapping adjusts frame by frame, XR Deep Black modulates the laser itself for shadow performance, and XR Clear Image works on low-bitrate material. Colour coverage is 95 percent of DCI-P3 through XR Triluminos Pro, and the Live Color Enhancer — fitted here but not to the Projector 8 — expands the gamut selectively rather than uniformly.

The Advanced Crisp-Focused lens uses a 70mm aspherical front element with a floating focus system of two moving groups and extra-low dispersion glass, which is what holds focus into the corners on a large screen. Two HDMI 2.1 inputs with HDCP 2.3. This generation does not support 3D.
