The top of Sony’s OLED range in 55 and 65 inch — the latest QD-OLED panel, and the successor to the A95L rather than to the BRAVIA 8.

Description

The BRAVIA 8 II sits at the top of Sony's OLED range, and the naming is genuinely misleading — it is not a replacement for the BRAVIA 8, which continues below it. It succeeds the A95L, and it uses Sony's latest QD-OLED panel.

QD-OLED produces colour by having quantum dots convert blue light rather than by filtering white, which is the same argument True RGB makes on the LCD side arrived at from a different direction: colour that keeps its saturation as brightness rises. It is offered in 55 and 65 inches only, so the choice between this and the BRAVIA 9 II is often settled by wall size before anything else.

Sound is handled by Acoustic Surface Audio+, which drives the panel itself as the speaker so dialogue comes from the face of the picture rather than from beneath it. Gaming support covers 4K at 120 Hz with VRR and ALLM, though only two inputs are HDMI 2.1 — worth checking against the room if a console and an AV processor both want one.
