A direct-coupled solid-state monoblock — 300W into 8 ohms, 480W into 4, and the accessible entry to McIntosh monoblock amplification.

Product Details

Description

The McIntosh MC830 is a direct-coupled solid-state monoblock power amplifier — 300 watts into 8 ohms and 480 watts into 4 ohms per channel. Unlike McIntosh’s Autoformer-equipped monoblocks (MC611, MC1.25KW, MC2.1KW), the MC830 uses a direct-coupled output stage: lighter, more compact, and the power output scales with impedance load rather than remaining constant across it. This makes the MC830 an accessible entry into McIntosh monoblock amplification, at a tier where the physical scale and price of the Autoformer-equipped monoblocks would be out of scope.

The design tradeoff is honest: what the MC830 gives up is the Autoformer’s load-invariant power delivery — into 2-ohm impedance dips the output drops relative to the Autoformer models. What it retains is McIntosh’s core amplifier engineering discipline: Power Guard clipping protection, Sentry Monitor short-circuit protection, Monogrammed Heatsinks for thermal dissipation, and Solid Cinch speaker binding posts. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs.

McIntosh signature aesthetics with black glass front panel, blue watt meter, illuminated logo, and brushed aluminum end caps. In an all-McIntosh system, the MC830 pair pairs naturally with any McIntosh preamplifier for a compact monoblock configuration, and delivers reference-tier solid-state amplification without the weight, price, or physical footprint of the Autoformer-equipped monoblocks. Suitable for loudspeakers with well-behaved impedance curves that do not require the load-invariant output the Autoformer models provide.

At $11,000 the pair in current McIntosh pricing, the MC830 is available at LMC. Walk in during business hours or book ahead for a prepared listening session against the specific loudspeakers you are considering pairing it with.
