Product Details

Description

The McIntosh MC462 is the amplifier that anchors most serious McIntosh systems — 450 watts per channel into any load through the McIntosh Autoformer, in a chassis whose scale fits real listening rooms rather than dedicated amp platforms. Where the MC1.25KW is the statement, the MC462 is the amplifier McIntosh built for the reference-tier owner whose priorities do not require the physical scale and per-channel isolation of monoblock separation.

Quad Balanced solid-state topology cancels distortion at the output. Autoformer output delivers full rated power into 8, 4, or 2 ohms without compromise — the signature McIntosh engineering that separates a McIntosh amplifier from every competitor in the tier. Power Guard prevents clipping into peaks, Sentry Monitor protects the output stage, Monogrammed Heatsinks dissipate heat, and Solid Cinch speaker binding posts deliver the mechanical connection quality McIntosh is known for.

At LMC, the MC462 anchors the Tempe Room 5 system — driving the Wilson Sabrina V main pair, the WATCH Anniversary Special Edition center, and the Alida surrounds, with the C2800 vacuum tube preamplifier and MX100 processor in front around a 100-inch Sony BRAVIA. The audition demonstrates what the MC462 delivers as the power amp underneath a full multi-channel system, not just a stereo pair — the tube-preamp-plus-solid-state-power combination is the McIntosh signature configuration.

At $11,500 in current McIntosh pricing, the MC462 is available for audition at Scottsdale or Tempe. Walk in during business hours or book ahead — hearing the MC462 in the Tempe Room 5 configuration is the honest demonstration of what most serious McIntosh systems are actually built around.
