The mid-tier McIntosh stereo power amplifier — 300 W per channel held constant into 2, 4 or 8 Ω through the Autoformer output stage.

Product Details

Description

The McIntosh MC312 is a 300-watt-per-channel solid-state stereo power amplifier — the mid-tier option in McIntosh’s stereo amplifier range. Below the MC462 (450W per channel flagship stereo) and above the MC152 (150W entry stereo), the MC312 delivers substantial power with McIntosh’s celebrated Autoformer output topology at an accessible tier, and answers the question of what a listener buys when the MC152’s 150W is insufficient but the MC462’s 450W and price are beyond scope.

The Autoformer transformer delivers the amplifier’s full 300W into any speaker impedance load — 4, 8, or 2 ohms all receive the same power. This is the technology that separates McIntosh amplifiers from conventional solid-state designs, and it allows the MC312 to drive difficult loudspeakers (electrostatic panels, planar magnetics, complex crossover networks) that would challenge amplifiers without impedance-matching transformers.

Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs. Autoformer output transformers, Power Guard clipping protection, Sentry Monitor short-circuit protection, Monogrammed Heatsinks for thermal dissipation, and Solid Cinch speaker binding posts complete the classic McIntosh feature set. Home Theater Pass Through capability lets the MC312 slot into a multichannel installation as the main-channel stereo amplifier.

At $8,500 in current McIntosh pricing, the MC312 pairs naturally with any McIntosh preamplifier — C55, C49, C22 Mk V, C2800, or C12000. Ideal power amp for the listener who wants stereo simplicity (single chassis rather than monoblock pair) at reference-adjacent power. Available at LMC — walk in during business hours or book ahead.
