Product Details

Description

The McIntosh MC152 is McIntosh’s entry-tier stereo solid-state power amplifier — 150 watts per channel via Autoformer output topology. Below the MC312 (300W) and MC462 (450W) stereo amps, the MC152 delivers pure McIntosh character at the most accessible tier without giving up the Autoformer transformer that defines the McIntosh sound. It is the amplifier for listeners entering McIntosh separates architecture (preamp plus power amp) after an integrated like the MA5300 or MA252.

The Autoformer transformer delivers the amplifier’s full 150W into any speaker impedance load — 4, 8, or 2 ohms all receive the same power. This is a critical distinction between McIntosh and other manufacturers: even at the entry tier, McIntosh amplifiers use the same load-invariant Autoformer output that has defined the brand since 1949. Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs. Autoformers, Power Guard clipping protection, and Sentry Monitor short-circuit protection.

At LMC, the MC152 anchors Tempe Room 4 System 1 — paired with the C49 preamplifier driving Sonus faber Amati G5 loudspeakers. The audition demonstrates that entry-tier does not mean entry-experience: the MC152 with the Amati G5 and C49 pre is a coherent, tonally accurate stereo system that occupies the same acoustic space many buyers arrive at only after multiple upgrade cycles. Solid McIntosh signature with black glass front, twin blue watt meters, illuminated logo, brushed aluminum end caps.

At $6,500 in current McIntosh pricing, the MC152 is available for audition at the Tempe showroom in the Room 4 configuration. Walk in during business hours or book ahead for a prepared listening session — the MC152 driving Amati G5 is the honest answer to what the entry tier of McIntosh separates actually sounds like.
