Product Details

Description

The McIntosh MC3500 Mk II is a modern tribute to one of the most legendary amplifiers in audio history — the original MC3500 that Bill Hanley used to amplify Woodstock in 1969, powering the sound that reached half a million people at Max Yasgur’s farm. The Mk II brings that heritage into the modern era: 350 watts per channel of pure vacuum tube power via McIntosh’s Unity Coupled Circuit Output Transformer, delivered from a single-channel monoblock chassis that shares its visual DNA with the original 1960s design.

The Unity Coupled Circuit Output Transformer is one of McIntosh’s foundational engineering achievements — a patented output transformer topology that allows vacuum tube amplifiers to deliver rated power into any speaker load without the traditional impedance-matching limitations of conventional tube amp designs. The MC3500 Mk II’s 350W of tube power drives even the most demanding loudspeakers with the tonal character only vacuum tubes deliver, and the Unity Coupled Circuit is the reason McIntosh tube amps sound different from every other tube amplifier in the market.

Power Guard Screen Grid Sensor protects the output tubes against overdrive. Sentry Monitor guards against short-circuits and improper loading. Solid Cinch speaker binding posts deliver mechanical connection quality. Classic McIntosh visual signature with the massive vertical chassis, exposed output tubes visible through top-panel windows, and the blue-lit power meter that has been part of the McIntosh identity since 1949. Ideal partner for the C12000 preamplifier (which offers matching vacuum tube output).

The MC3500 Mk II is a piece of history brought forward — for listeners who understand that some things are worth doing the way they were done, and for whom the character of a large-format tube amplifier driving reference loudspeakers is the final destination of a lifetime spent listening. At $35,000 the pair in current McIntosh pricing, available at LMC. Walk in during business hours or book ahead.
