Product Details

Description

The MBL 1611 F is a 23-kilogram digital-to-analog converter planted on solid brass pillars milled in MBL's own Berlin factory — a stand-alone Reference Line component whose creators left nothing to chance. Under the massive gold-plated cover plate, two top-end converter designs work together: 1-Bit Delta-Sigma and Multibit conversion, combining the aural spaciousness and overtone delicacy of one approach with the tight low-frequency control of the other.

Single-stage output electronics send the music signal out of the converter in the most direct way possible — balanced XLR or single-ended RCA — with minimal contact surfaces and short signal paths. The reward is a 117 dB signal-to-noise ratio. Digital inputs span XLR (AES/EBU), RCA and BNC (S/PDIF), Toslink, and USB accepting up to 24-bit/96kHz; the USB input runs in Master Clock Mode for asynchronous, jitter-free transfer from a PC, Mac, iPhone or iPad with no driver installation. Group-delay-optimized digital and analog filters preserve natural timing, and separate power supplies feed the analog, digital, and display sections independently.

MBL's True Peak Technology builds a three-decibel modulation reserve into the digital filters, correcting the intersample overloads that hard-mastered recordings produce in conventional DAC chips — distortion-free playback even from aggressively mastered CDs and files at peak levels. An optional Roon Ready network input card connects the 1611 F to the Roon platform. Its dream partner is the 1621 A CD transport. Handbuilt in Berlin.
