Product Details
The MBL 9008 A is the Reference Line's core power amplifier — designed as a differential-balanced monoblock, also usable as a stereo power amplifier in single-ended mode. Its first 50 watts of output are pure Class A before transitioning to Class AB, and sixteen output devices deliver up to 840 watts of musical power into 4 ohms with a maximum of 40 amps of peak current in optimized balanced mono operation.
The output transistors are protected by MBL's Isolated Gain Cell circuit, recharged by a user-selectable choice of one or two toroidal transformers — each with its own power inlet — so the semiconductors always operate in their linear range with no possibility of dynamic compression. If a heavy drum beat pushes a conventional amplifier's transistors to their limit, the rest of the orchestra sounds stressed until they recover; that never occurs with the 9008 A. The assembled components rest on a massive solid copper foundation that impedes vibration and acts as a preliminary heat sink; despite its power, the amplifier runs barely warm even into low-impedance loads.
The second toroidal transformer is MBL's Silent Reserve: switched from the rear panel, it does not change power output but charges the output capacitors faster — fine-tuning the amplifier to the room and speaker. Fully symmetrical signal flow from input to output keeps the signal ground extremely quiet. Six in-house-manufactured solid copper terminals support bi-wiring. Handbuilt in Berlin.
