Ascendo The15 SUB Passive Vented

The15 SUB Passive Vented is the smaller of the two accessible-tier subwoofers, built to the same brief as The18: Ascendo engineering and Ascendo's published third-party measurements, in a cabinet and at a cost that suits a room which does not need a PRO model.

It is a 15-inch driver on a cast frame with a 3-inch voice coil, in a vented enclosure tuned to 27 Hz. Six millimetres of excursion each way is modest, so this is a subwoofer that works through cone area and port tuning rather than displacement — and the practical consequence is that one amplifier channel at 700 watts into 4 ohms drives it properly.

At 250 mm deep and 32.7 kg it is genuinely easy to place, which matters more often than specification sheets suggest. It goes behind a screen, into a riser, or along a side wall in rooms where a larger cabinet would have to be argued for.

In an Ascendo system it is the entry point rather than the foundation. Where a room needs authority below 30 Hz, the PRO models and the infrasonic range above them are the answer — and they are designed to be added later without replacing what is already there.
