Product Details
The Octave V 16 Single Ended is Octave's first single-ended design — an integrated amplifier with dedicated high-grade headphone amplifier that brings single-ended Class-A character to a broad range of applications, from high-efficiency loudspeakers to reference headphones. Rather than use a directly-heated triode like the 300B (which brings its own set of technical challenges), Octave developed the V 16 to operate a KT 120 pentode in a triode circuit — avoiding the traditional 300B limitations while retaining single-ended character. The KT 120 tube offers high performance, excellent longevity, tight tolerances, and widespread availability. Alternate tubes (KT 150, KT 88, 6550) can also be used.
Octave applied its transformer and circuit expertise to solve the four classic single-ended limitations. First, the bass roll-off inherent in SET designs: Octave's new magnetic-field compensated output transformer (developed, wound, and crafted in-house) keeps the power bandwidth linear down to 10 Hz. Second, limited upper bandwidth: through specific driver stages and optimized feedback, Octave extended the V 16's bandwidth to 100 kHz — previously considered impossible for a single-ended design. Third, high residual noise in single-ended loudspeaker outputs: Octave optimized the mains transformer positioning and used sophisticated electronic stabilization to render hum virtually immeasurable (–110 dB / 1W at 8 ohms, approximately 15-20 µV at 50 Hz). Fourth, the extreme heat of traditional single-ended Class-A designs: Octave's adaptive three-step Class-A mode automatically adjusts between 100% and 35% to the load profile, and Ecomode reduces to 35% during music pauses.
The result: an uncompromising single-ended Class-A integrated that delivers ultra-quiet operation, deep linear bass, natural midrange, and silky-smooth highs — with the reliability and longevity Octave is known for. 2 x 8W RMS speaker output, plus dual headphone outputs (6.3mm single-ended jack + 4-pin XLR balanced) that accommodate both single-ended and balanced headphones.
Available in Ice Grey or Metallic Black — unique color options in Octave's range. Compact chassis (210 x 335 x 380 mm) at 19 kg. Standard Octave Power Management, Soft-Start Electronics, Protection System, Power Selector, Eco Mode, BIAS Display, Monitor/Record Output, HT Bypass, Pre-Out, and (Super) Black Box Connection. Available at LMC.
Single-ended Class-A integrated amplifier + high-grade dual headphone amplifier — Octave's first single-ended design
2 x KT 120 pentode operated in triode circuit — avoids the technical limitations of directly-heated 300B triodes while retaining SET character; KT 150, KT 88, or 6550 also usable
2 x 8 W RMS (loudspeaker); dual 6.3mm + 4-pin XLR headphone outputs
Extended 10 Hz – 100 kHz — previously considered impossible for a single-ended design; magnetic-field compensated in-house output transformer
Single-ended Class-A integrated + headphone amplifier — Octave's first single-ended design
2 x KT 120 in triode circuit (KT 150, KT 88, or 6550 also compatible)
