Octave Phono EQ.2 Phono Preamplifier

The Phono EQ.2 is Octave's external semiconductor-based phono preamplifier — the flexible, universal alternative to built-in phono stages in integrated amplifiers. It exists because many pre- and integrated-amplifiers on the market either don't include dedicated phono inputs at all, or when they do offer one, the input serves only marketing checklist purposes rather than genuine sonic performance. The Phono EQ.2 is the answer for analog enthusiasts using non-Octave preamps, and for listeners who want a discrete high-quality phono stage.

Vinyl has always played an important role at Octave — nearly every Octave pre- and integrated-amplifier model produced has offered analog aficionados the option to add a perfectly tuned built-in phono input with proper adjustment possibilities. But for music lovers who own a turntable without yet owning an Octave component, the Phono EQ.2 fills the gap. It is a compact yet complete MM/MC phono stage housed in a magnetically-shielded chassis with an external power supply — keeping the sensitive input voltage coming from the phono cartridge isolated from 50/60 Hz mains-line interference.

The Phono EQ.2 handles both Moving Magnet and Moving Coil cartridges with real-world impedance and gain matching. Input impedance is selectable across 12 steps between 62 and 1000 ohms (62, 75, 97, 100, 125, 146, 170, 200, 250, 340, 500, 1000 ohms). Four gain levels (58, 62, 68, 72 dB for MC) allow perfect matching to any cartridge sensitivity. A fine-tuned Subsonic filter protects bass drivers from below-audible energy that can otherwise cause driver excursion problems.

Following Octave's uncompromising approach to quality, all connectors are gold-plated and internal components are meticulously selected from the most respected manufacturers.
