Octave Black Box Power Supply Extension

The Octave Black Box is the smaller of the two external passive power-supply extensions for Octave integrated and power amplifiers — same conceptual design as the Super Black Box, but with a 4x capacitance increase (versus 10x for the Super Black Box) in a more compact chassis. It contains a circuit with electrolytic capacitors that increases the power supply from the amplifier's mains transformer to the power amplifier stage, and stabilizes that power supply against mains fluctuations. Low-frequency network interference is perfectly suppressed by the electrolytic capacitor circuit.

The Black Box has its own housing and is permanently connected to the amplifier using a special high-current connector. Once installed, it operates transparently: the amplifier now has significantly greater power-supply reserves, delivers more effortless dynamics, and shows improved bass control and low-frequency articulation. Loudspeaker efficiency becomes less critical, and the amplifier is enabled to handle more demanding loudspeaker loads.

The Black Box is compatible with all current Octave amplifiers: V 40 (SE), V 70 (SE), V 70 Class A, V 80 (SE), V 110 (SE), V 16 Single Ended integrated amplifiers, and the RE 320, MRE 220 (SE) power amplifiers. Notably, the Black Box also supports several legacy models that Super Black Box does NOT support: V 50, RE 280 MK2, RE 290, and MRE 130. Discharge electronics safely discharge the capacitors within 2 seconds when disconnected.
