Description
The McIntosh XRT2.1K is the flagship loudspeaker in the McIntosh range — a full-range line array floor stander standing 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall with 81 drivers per speaker: six 8-inch woofers and two 6.5-inch low-frequency midranges in the reinforced bass cabinet, plus 28 two-inch upper-frequency midranges and 45 three-quarter-inch tweeters arrayed vertically on the line array proper.
Line array topology is what separates the XRT2.1K from every conventional point-source loudspeaker in its price band. Multiple identical drivers arranged in a vertical column create controlled vertical dispersion that projects sound evenly through a room without the loud-in-front and thin-in-back falloff of a single-driver-per-band design. The horizontal dispersion is wide, and the sweet spot expands accordingly — a room of listeners hears the same soundstage rather than one seat sounding right and the rest sounding compromised. The upper-frequency midrange and tweeter drivers are aluminum-magnesium with neodymium magnets, custom-designed for the XRT2.1K program. The 4-way ported design is tri-amp and tri-wire capable, and the 2,000-watt power rating handles anything the most ambitious McIntosh amplifier chain can throw at it.
In LMC's Grand Cinema Suite in Scottsdale, a pair of XRT2.1Ks form the main L/R channels driven by McIntosh MC2.1KW and MC1.25KW monoblocks — a purely McIntosh reference-tier signal chain. The Grand Cinema Suite pairs the XRT2.1Ks with Sonus faber Arena in-walls, REL Carbon Special Black Label subwoofer arrays, Trinnov Altitude32 processing, and Barco Freya native 4K DLP projection — the room to hear what McIntosh's flagship line array does at cinema-scale output levels.
