Kimber Kable Monocle XL Loudspeaker Cable

Monocle XL is the single-wire loudspeaker cable at the top of the Summit range — the one to choose where the loudspeaker takes a single pair of binding posts, or where a single run is preferred on a bi-wireable loudspeaker with jumpers in place. It exists as a bridge in the Kimber ladder between the traditional woven cables (from 4PR to 12TC in the Ascent tier) and the more technically-advanced Select 6000 range at the top.

The construction is a 24-wire braid — twelve TC and twelve VS conductors — each manufactured from VariStrand copper, so that no particular frequency range dominates. Those 24 conductors are then woven around Kimber’s own X38R stabilizing core, the same proprietary core compound used at the heart of the Select range. The expanded braid geometry provides better mechanical and electrical damping than a plain woven cable and extends dynamic range at both ends of the spectrum. Total conductor cross-section is 2 × 9 AWG per side.

Terminations are WBT NextGen banana or spade, with the WBT-0610 locking slanted bananas available in both CU (gold-plated copper) and AG (platinum-plated silver) versions. The cable finishes in a hard-anodised aluminium end cap that provides mechanical stability to the breakout of positive and negative leads and is laser-serialised to combat counterfeiting.

Summit sits above Ascent and below Carbon in the Kimber ladder, and Monocle XL is the model that most clearly demonstrates why Kimber has kept the tier: it is substantially more cable than the 12TC below it, without yet asking the Carbon or Select question.
