Kimber KS 6068

KS 6068 is the crown of the Select 6000 series and, by any reasonable measure, the most serious loudspeaker cable Kimber builds. All-silver conductors — twelve 24 AWG solid core OFE silver conductors braided around a geometry-stabilizing central core, then a further twelve 19 AWG OFE silver VariStrand conductors, then a final VariStrand silver layer, with a woven yarn layer stabilizing the whole assembly. Silver refined to 99.995% purity.

The construction elaborates on the “spaced-and-damped” geometry that Kimber’s older Monocle XL and Carbon 18 XL use — a central core that dampens vibration and prevents excessive deformation, with the conductors held around it in a complex weave. That geometry does what shielding is often asked to do in less carefully-designed cables: cancel induced fields through the shape of the conductor array rather than by wrapping the signal in copper or foil.

Silver conducts roughly six percent better than copper, and in the Select geometry that shows up as low-level dynamics revealed with unusual delicacy and the best reproduction of space within the soundstage anywhere in the series. Everything about the cable is extreme: the construction, the geometry, the cross-section, the materials, and the price. Its interconnect counterparts are the KS 1036 (RCA) and KS 1136 (balanced XLR); the hybrid and copper alternatives are the KS 6065 and KS 6063.

KS 6068 is the correct choice for a system where the loudspeakers are the last thing anyone would consider changing, the electronics are already reference-class, and the argument for silver at every point in the signal path is settled.
