dCS MCD 16 Multichannel DAC

The MCD 16 is dCS's first 16-channel digital-to-analogue converter — sixteen channels of audio derived from eight dCS Ring DACs, extending the company's conversion discipline from stereo into multichannel and immersive audio for the first time in its history.

The construction premise is uncompromised in the most literal sense: rather than a multichannel converter architecture designed to a channel-count budget, the MCD 16 deploys eight full Ring DACs — the same proprietary conversion technology that defines dCS's stereo reference products — each contributing two channels. Every channel of a sixteen-channel installation receives conversion engineered to the standard dCS applies to a two-channel reference system. There is no lesser tier of conversion hiding in the surround or height channels.

The application is the reference-tier immersive room — installations where object-based audio, large channel counts, and genuinely full-range playback per channel meet, and where the conversion stage has historically been the quiet compromise in an otherwise uncompromised system.
