Dan D’Agostino Relentless Z Preamplifier

The Relentless Z Preamplifier is the control center the Relentless Z amplifiers were designed around — a three-chassis, dual-mono statement preamplifier whose reimagined Z JFET-based output stage delivers significantly greater current and enhanced stability into the Z input stages of the Epic 1600 Z and 800 Z. Preamplifier and amplifier are engineered as a system: the Z output stage here is the other half of the coupling the Z amplifiers were built to exploit.

The architecture is the statement-tier Relentless one. Three chassis — a dedicated audio chassis per channel with the power supply and control section between them — lock together through D'Agostino's foot mechanisms, with extensive electrical and magnetic shielding keeping the power section's work away from the circuits doing the listening. The signal path is fully balanced and complementary from input to output with no negative feedback, and the fascia carries the Ballistic Meter behind mineral glass. Two-zone, two-source operation is built in, control runs through the Vision Bluetooth remote, and an optional Digital Streaming Module adds a field-upgradeable DAC.

At LMC, the Relentless preamplifier's job is on display in the Scottsdale WAMM Room, where a Relentless preamplifier controls Relentless monoblocks beneath the Wilson WAMM Master Chronosonic — a system resolving enough to reveal exactly what a preamplifier of this tier contributes. The Z Preamplifier is the version of that control stage matched to the Z amplifiers.
