Ascendo The12 PRO Coaxial Cinema Monitor

The12 PRO is the largest passive cinema monitor Ascendo builds, and the number that explains it is 97 dB of efficiency. At that sensitivity a modest amplifier produces volume levels that would need many times the power from a conventional loudspeaker — which is why the loudspeaker sounds effortless rather than driven, and why the amplifier budget in an Ascendo room goes further than expected.

The driver is a 12-inch time-coherent coaxial point source, with a compression tweeter on a 3-inch voice coil arranged centrally behind the mid-woofer. Because both sources occupy the same point in space, transients arrive together instead of smearing across a few microseconds, and the enclosure — internally braced birch plywood drawn from more than twenty years of cabinet work — keeps parasitic vibration out of the result.

Continuous output is 123 dB with 135 dB peaks, from 75 Hz to 21 kHz, and it still manages 100 dB at 40 Hz before a subwoofer takes over. Input is Neutrik Speakon, mounting is four brackets for horizontal or vertical placement with a VESA 200 option, and the finish is structured black lacquer with twelve-layer piano lacquer available in any colour.
