The Alexx V System

The Alexx V System

Wilson Alexx V with Submerge subwoofers, driven by Burmester 909 MK5 monoblocks and the 077 preamplifier, sourced by Linn’s Klimax DSM.

Why This Pairing Works

The Alexx V drops to 2.0 ohms at 250 Hz and asks for a hundred watts as a floor. Burmester's 909 MK5 answers that without strain — it has sat at the top of the company's range since 1990 — and the 077 preamplifier ahead of it carries the same X-Amp fully balanced dual-mono topology as the 808, in a chassis a real rack can hold.

Wilson's Submerge subwoofers take the bottom two octaves. Their 12-inch driver uses a dual-spider design that constrains it to pistonic movement, in a sealed enclosure — no port bloom, no group delay smearing the handoff. Digital comes from Linn's Klimax DSM, built around the Organik DAC that Linn designs and manufactures in Glasgow without third-party converter chips.
