Product Details
The Burmester 909 MK5 is the largest stereo power amplifier in Burmester's Reference Line — the fifth generation of a design the company has refined across more than three decades, engineered to control any loudspeaker Burmester's own catalog can put in front of it. It is the amplifier for the listener who wants full Reference-tier stereo in a single chassis, with the option to move to mono-bridged operation later without changing brands.
The topology is X-Amp, fully balanced from input to output. Dual-channel construction shares one heavily built power supply between two independent output stages, and high-bias Class AB operation keeps the amplifier warm at idle — so the first watts, where the overwhelming majority of real listening happens, run in Class A. Output is 600 watts per channel into 4 ohms; frequency response reaches beyond 200 kHz; damping factor exceeds 3000 — the figure that determines whether an amplifier controls a bass driver or merely energises it.
The MK5 revision brings the accumulated refinement of the platform to every stage: the X-Amp output topology, the power supply, and the internal construction have each been carried forward. Modular construction is a house discipline at Burmester — the 909 platform is designed to be brought forward, not replaced, and existing units can be updated to MK5 specification rather than traded in. When a system's demands eventually outgrow stereo, the 909 MK5 is mono-bridgeable via external adapter — 1,930 watts into 4 ohms in that configuration — and two 909 MK5s bridged is a recognised route to Reference-tier mono operation below the flagship 159 monoblock.
The 909 MK5 exists for loudspeakers that genuinely require it — large Signature Line, Wilson Chronosonic XVX, Alexx V, and comparable reference designs with demanding impedance behaviour. Partnered with the 249 or 808 MK5 preamplifier, it anchors a full Burmester Reference chain. LMC configures 909 MK5 systems against the specific loudspeaker and room; walk in during business hours, or book ahead for an extended session in the Scottsdale reference room.
