McIntosh MDA200 D/A Converter

The McIntosh MDA200 is McIntosh's current dedicated D/A converter — a purpose-built digital-to-analog conversion component with the DA2 Digital Audio Module installed (the same module used in McIntosh's premium preamps and integrated amps like the C55, C2800, MA9500, and MA12000). For listeners with an all-analog McIntosh system (C22 Mk V, C8, MC275, MC1502) who want to add high-resolution digital music playback, the MDA200 provides that capability without requiring an upgrade to a preamp with built-in digital support.

Seven digital inputs cover every meaningful modern connection path: 2 coaxial, 2 optical, 1 USB Type B, 1 MCT DIN (for the MCT500 SACD transport, transmitting DSD directly from SACDs), and 1 HDMI ARC input (for TV audio integration when the MDA200 is used in a mixed music-and-television system). USB supports up to DSD512 and 32-bit/384 kHz PCM. Coaxial and optical support 24-bit/192 kHz. The MDA200 can also replace an older or outdated DAC in a system where the analog side is being upgraded but the current DAC no longer meets current-resolution demands.

The DA2 module architecture is important context: rather than developing separate DAC circuits per product tier, McIntosh built one high-performance modular DAC assembly and deployed it across the current premium line. Buying the MDA200 means buying the same conversion path found in the MA9500 and MA12000 integrated amps, just in a standalone chassis. Balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) analog outputs pair the MDA200 with any McIntosh preamp or integrated amp with an analog line-level input.
