Product Details
KCAG is the all-silver expression of the tri-braid, and the cleanest way to understand it is by what sits just below it. Silver Streak carries the signal on a single Hyper-pure VariStrand silver conductor and uses copper for the ground plane. KCAG replaces the copper as well: all three braided conductors are silver.
The geometry is the one Kimber has used since 1979. Three conductors woven so that each one’s position relative to its neighbours changes continuously along the run, which cancels the induced fields that parallel conductors generate. VariStrand mixes strand gauges within each conductor, on the reasoning that different gauges favour different parts of the band.
It has been in the catalogue long enough to have a track record. Stereophile’s Recommended Components called it astonishingly transparent, with improved image focus and clarity, and reviewers have consistently described the silver character the same way — open, extended, quick, with a very quiet background. Whether that suits a given system is a listening question; silver and copper voice differently and neither is simply better. Available in RCA and balanced XLR.
KCAG sits above Silver Streak and below KCTG in the classic tri-braid lineage that has been in the catalogue since PBJ arrived in the early 1980s — the older Kimber reference line that predates the Select 6000 introduction of 2010. It remains in production because it earns the place: the tri-braid is a genuinely different design than Select, and the KCAG voicing has been used to anchor reference systems for decades.
