Product Details
The concept mc is Clearaudio’s entry into serious moving-coil listening — developed in the early 2010s alongside the concept turntable, engineered specifically to make low-output MC playback accessible to first-time owners without stepping into the V2-generation tonewood family above. It is factory-installable on the concept turntable and available separately for retrofit on other systems.
The body is an aluminum-magnesium alloy with a ceramic surface layer — chosen for damping without adding mass. Inside sits the concept mc generator architecture: independent coils wound in a V configuration (related to the fully-symmetrical design used on Talisman V2 and up, but distinct from it), OFC copper coil wire, a solid boron cantilever, and a Micro Line diamond stylus. The 11 Ω internal impedance is characteristic of a low-output MC and means the concept mc wants a proper MC phono stage — Clearaudio’s own nano phono V2, smart phono V2, or basic V2 all match well.
Measured, the concept mc delivers 0.4 mV output at 5 cm/sec through a boron cantilever and Micro Line stylus — for the price, features usually absent from cartridges in this bracket. Total mass 8.0 g, tracking force 2.0 g ± 0.2 g, 20 Hz – 20 kHz frequency response. This is not a high-output MC (that description applies to a completely different product line — the concept MM moving-magnet); a proper MC phono stage or step-up transformer is required.
The concept mc is the right cartridge for a concept, concept Signature, Performance DC, or Ovation turntable where the listener wants to make the step from moving-magnet to genuine low-output moving-coil. Available on order at LMC Scottsdale — walk in during business hours or book ahead if the audition needs a concept mc heard on your specific turntable and phono stage.
Low-output moving-coil — requires a proper MC phono stage or step-up transformer
Aluminum-magnesium alloy with a ceramic surface layer — damps resonance and gives the cartridge its distinctive anodised appearance
Solid boron rod — the same material Clearaudio uses through the entire MC range
Micro Line diamond — fine-line profile, standard on the concept mc since introduction
Independent coils in V configuration — architecturally related to the fully symmetrical design used on Talisman V2 and up
OFC copper
