On September 30, 2026, Wilson Audio moved the WAMM Master Chronosonic from current production into its Legacy collection. The loudspeaker David A. Wilson considered his magnum opus has completed its run, and the number of pairs in the world is now very nearly fixed.
LMC holds two of them.
A production run that was always meant to end
The WAMM Master Chronosonic was never an ordinary catalog product. From the outset, Wilson Audio announced that production would be limited to 70 pairs, each taking approximately ten weeks to build by hand in Provo, Utah.
Legacy status is the natural close of that plan. In its announcement, Wilson Audio described the WAMM as "the very highest expression of Wilson Audio's pursuit of excellence," with a place in the company's history that is "forever connected to David A. Wilson, his life's work, and the craftspeople who brought his vision to life."
According to Wilson Audio, only enough parts remain to build two more pairs, and one of those is reportedly already spoken for.
Why the WAMM still stands alone
The name reaches back to the beginning. The original WAMM, first shown in 1981, was the first loudspeaker David Wilson sold to the public. The Master Chronosonic was his return to that idea at the end of his career, after five years of dedicated design and engineering work.
Its defining achievement is time. Every driver module in the upper array can be positioned independently, so that sound from each one arrives at the listener at the same instant. Wilson Audio's micrometer system makes those adjustments in increments of five-millionths of a second, a degree of precision that remains the reference point for the idea.
Each side stands roughly seven feet tall and carries seven forward-firing drivers, plus a rear-firing tweeter and midrange that recreate the ambient sound of a real hall. Nothing about that design has been superseded. Wilson Audio's later loudspeakers carry its thinking forward, but there is one WAMM, and no successor bears the name.
Two pairs at LMC
LMC is among the very few places where a WAMM Master Chronosonic can still be heard, and one of fewer still where a pair can be acquired.
- Cranberry Pearl. Set up in our Scottsdale demonstration room, precisely aligned and ready to audition.
- Quartz. Factory sealed and new in the box, a WAMM that has never been unpacked.
A factory-sealed pair of a completed limited run is unusual for any collectable object. For a loudspeaker that is also the final statement of its designer, it may not come around again.
Hear it while you can
Most people who love music will never sit in front of a WAMM. Opportunities to hear one are rare now, and the opportunity to own one is rarer still.
Private listening sessions are available by appointment at our Scottsdale showroom. Bring the recordings you know best.
