The McIntosh MPC1500 is the reference power controller in McIntosh’s own lineup — the foundation infrastructure a full McIntosh reference stack (amplifiers, source components, processor) sits on, all drawing from one clean, isolated AC supply. It is built to protect + power that entire stack, with the same black-glass, blue-meter industrial standard as every other McIntosh component in the rack.
At the heart of the MPC1500 is a large but quiet toroidal isolation transformer, specially wound to act as a low-pass filter that removes unwanted noise from the incoming AC line BEFORE it ever reaches a connected component. Alongside it, a quick-acting surge suppression module activates when line voltage reaches approximately 2 V above nominal peak, and releases excess voltage slowly and harmlessly to the circuit’s neutral wire (not the ground wire, where it could still find its way to audio components and cause damage). The critical detail is that this suppression module is NON-sacrificial: unlike common MOV-based designs that must be replaced after a single significant surge event, the MPC1500’s module does not degrade with each hit and does not need replacement afterward. Load regulation is held to ± 2.5%.
The rear panel provides six medical-grade Type B1 (NEMA 5-15R) duplex receptacles — twelve outlets total — or six Type F1 (Schuko) single receptacles, depending on region. Two receptacles are always active whenever the MPC1500 is plugged in; the remaining four are independently switchable via rear-panel controls, allowing custom power sequencing that matches how the rest of the McIntosh stack is used. On the front panel, McIntosh’s signature blue Watt meters are repurposed to display real-time incoming voltage and actual current draw — clear visual insight into the system’s AC condition. Type B: 120 V AC nominal, 12 A max, 1440 W. Type F: 230 V AC, 6 A max, 1380 W.
