Product Details
TriFocal XL is the largest cable in the Summit series and the least commonly specified, for the straightforward reason that it answers a question most loudspeakers do not ask. Where Monocle XL is a single run and BiFocal XL splits high and low frequencies into two isolated circuits within one body, TriFocal XL carries three — a genuine tri-wire or tri-amp cable in a single sleeve.
The construction takes five passes through the braider. A six-wire braid handles the high frequencies. A layer of braided ESD yarn separates it from a twelve-wire braid carrying the midrange. A second ESD layer separates that from a twenty-four-wire braid handling the low frequencies. Forty-two conductors in total, equal parts TC solid core and VariStrand copper, aggregating to 5.5 AWG per polarity — substantially more copper than the BiFocal XL beneath it, in a cable 38 mm in diameter.
The ESD yarn between circuits is doing real work rather than acting as a spacer. Three signal paths running in close proximity would otherwise couple, and the isolation matrix is what allows the three circuits to behave as three separate cables that happen to share a jacket. That is the same principle BiFocal XL uses, applied one layer further.
TriFocal XL is the correct answer for a loudspeaker with three sets of binding posts, or for a tri-amped system where the crossover work happens ahead of the amplifiers. On anything else it is more cable than the application needs — the Monocle XL or BiFocal XL will serve better and cost less. Terminated pairs include WBT copper connectors and finish in heatshrink rather than the hard-anodised end caps used on the smaller Summit cables. Walk in during business hours or book ahead if the audition needs a tri-wireable loudspeaker heard on TriFocal XL against BiFocal XL or separate runs.
