Product Details
Neo is the first all-new family of interconnects Kimber Kable has released in more than twenty years, and it reads as a summary of everything the company has learned since 1979. The braid is immediately recognisable — woven conductors and no conventional shielding, the geometry Ray Kimber arrived at when he found that weaving cancelled induced noise rather than filtering it out.
What is new is the mixture. Eight signal conductors run through the centre of the cable, four solid core and four stranded, braided together. Solid core and stranded wire behave differently across the frequency range, and combining them is a technique Kimber had previously reserved for the flagship Select loudspeaker cables. This is the first time it has appeared in an analog interconnect. Around that centre sits a second braid of eight stranded ground conductors, which guides the signal and acts as a passive shield in place of a foil or mesh wrap.
Three variants share the identical construction and differ only in conductor material: Neo-AG in silver, Neo-CU in copper, and Neo-HB pairing silver signal conductors with a copper ground. That choice is a voicing decision rather than a hierarchy — silver for speed and openness, copper for density, the hybrid between them. Neo sits at the top of Kimber’s current catalogue above Select, and it is the first cable in the Kimber ladder where the AG/HB/CU choice becomes a genuinely significant tonal decision rather than a minor character shift.
Neo is designed for reference systems where the source and preamplifier are already resolving enough that the character of the interconnect between them is one of the last things the system will show. The choice between the three variants is a listening question, not a specification one — the same argument that leads a system to silver-heavy voicing or copper-heavy voicing everywhere else is the argument that lands the right Neo. Walk in during business hours or book ahead if the audition needs a Select-vs-Neo comparison with your specific source and preamp in the room.
